Does there exist a global dataset on rainfall (at least 0.5x0.5 degrees grid) already in .csv or similar format?

which should be what I am looking for (even if it is a 1x1 log-lat grid precision). However, I do not really get how to open the data. The files are compressed in .gz, but I am not able to download them. Has anyone better luck?
